About the event

Geminids Meteor Shower Timelapse captured from Araku in 2023

The Geminid meteor shower is one of the most reliable annual showers, peaking in mid-December and caused by debris from the asteroid 3200 Phaethon. It is unique because its source is a rocky asteroid rather than a comet, and it can produce up to 150 bright meteors per hour under ideal conditions.

At the summit, trekkers are rewarded with a sweeping 360-degree view of the Eastern Ghats with an uninterrupted panorama of ridgelines and valleys softened by the monsoon. A notable feature of the trek is a natural cave shelter once used by local hunters, adding a layer of cultural intrigue to the journey through these highland grasslands. FAQ: 1. Are there washrooms on the summit?- Unfortunately, no. But let that not be a reason for you not to trek because there is still a safe and hygienic way to go for the nature's call outdoors, and the team will facilitate you with the same. 2. What if it rains or the sky gets cloudy?- We request you to carry a raincoat, preferably a poncho raincoat(available in Decathlon). And if the sky gets cloudy, we can't do much about it. We wait for the sky to clear up. It's in the pursuit of watching the stars. 3. How safe is it?- All our treks and experiences are tried and tested enough before we organise. Our team has 6+ years of outdoor experience and also trained in First Aid. Our team also primarily consists of the local tribes, who understand the area and terrain better than anyone. 4. How to reach Araku?- Traveling from Vizag to Araku is straightforward, with both road and train options available. The distance is about 115 km, and you can either hire a cab, take an APSRTC bus with regular departures through the day, or opt for the popular morning Vizag–Araku train(Kirandul Passenger) known for its scenic tunnels and valley views. Booking train tickets in advance is important because this route fills up quickly. Terms and Conditions: A. Waiver of Liability and Assumption of Risk 1.
